Job summary

Community Counseling Center Inc in Cape Girardeau, MO, is hiring a Veterans Peer Specialist to provide peer support to Veterans, Service Members, and eligible family members. You will help connect participants to services, strengthen support networks, and work toward recovery and wellness goals.

The role requires lived experience with mental health recovery or military transition, with a Certified Peer Specialist credential preferred. Valid driver’s license and active insurance are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Veteran status and lived experience with mental health recovery, substance use recovery, military transition, or other life challenges.
• Certified Peer Specialist credential preferred or willingness to obtain certification within agency-required timeframe.
• Knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and community resources.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and basic computer skills.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Must hold Valid Driver's License (Class E for Missouri or Class D for IL Residents - Obtain on start date) and current continuous auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach to Veterans and Service Members needing suicide prevention or behavioral health support.
• Provide individual and group peer support focused on recovery, resilience, coping skills, and community connections.
• Help participants identify strengths, set goals, and build self-advocacy skills.
• Assist participants with accessing VA services, treatment, housing, employment resources, and other supports, including warm hand-offs.
• Support participants during crises or transitions while following safety protocols.
• Collaborate with case managers, clinicians, VA providers, and community partners to support goals.
• Participate in outreach events, training, and supervision; maintain timely documentation, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm (Times may vary; occasional evening or weekend maybe required)

Location:

Cape Girardeau, MO (Cape County), serve all five counties which include Cape, Fredericktown, Marble Hill, Perryville, and Ste Genevieve Missouri.

Pay Non - Exempt:

$16.42 - $18.82 per hour (Depending on experience)

Job Summary:
