LOCATION OF POSITION: 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623

POSITION DUTIES

Operates various pieces of standard or specialized equipment such as front end-loaders/backhoes, sweepers, or 3/4 ton trucks. Measures and excavates graves for the internment of casketed or cremated remains. May supervise or train building and grounds workers and cemetery caretakers to operate equipment when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the Sixth grade.
Experience: One year of experience operating motorized equipment, such as tractors, snow removal equipment, power lawn mowers, backhoes, or other landscaping equipment used in grounds maintenance work. Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in motor vehicle and equipment operator classifications and construction equipment specialty codes on a year-to-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience in cemetery maintenance.
  2. Experience in grounds and building maintenance.
  3. Ability to effectively operate multiple pieces of equipment; including but not limited to tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, and vault haulers.
  4. Ability to perform routine maintenance on operating vehicles.
  5. Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
  6. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with superiors, co-workers, and the public.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
  2. Employees in this classification may be required to apply and store pesticides. Such employees shall use or apply pesticides in compliance with Maryland State pesticide regulations and licensing requirements.
