Job summary

Clear Path for Veterans is seeking a Canine Program Trainer to train service dogs and support canine staff. You will work with the Canine Program team to develop training plans, ensure safety, and conduct public access testing.

Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, along with a focus on veterans and their families. The role involves flexible hours, travel to sites as needed, and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field OR equivalent work experience with certification in a recognized canine training school or organization.
  • 3-5 years proven successful experience training dogs using modern training techniques.
  • AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator certification preferred.
  • Experience with group and private training sessions preferred.
  • Background in training service dogs preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written presentation, and IT skills.
  • Experience working with Veterans preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train assigned CPV Canine Program dogs to learn cues, skills, and behaviors from basic obedience to service level.
  • Assist in training and development of dogs in the Canine Development and Advanced Training programs.
  • Maintain training records and reports.
  • Coordinate with Canine Program team to develop effective training plans.
  • Ensure safety and proper behavior in public spaces; perform public access training and testing.
  • Attend departmental and organizational meetings and participate in events.
