Job summary

The Justice Center in Colorado Springs seeks an experienced paralegal to support the Social Security Benefits and Veterans Benefits Attorneys under the Lawyers-Helping-Heroes project. The role involves beneficiary intake, record collection, case management, and grant reporting, with work supervised by attorneys.

Responsibilities include assisting with legal advice services, direct representation for VA/SSDI claims, and contributing to educational resources and training.

Qualifications

• Paralegal studies: certificate, associates, or bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of paralegal work or comparable legal-support experience.
• Experience communicating respectfully with active-duty military members, veterans, and dependents.
• Familiarity with military records, discharge documents, VA forms, and Social Security Administration forms.

Responsibilities

• Assist with legal advice services via Call-a-Lawyer, Email-a-Lawyer, and Meet-a-Lawyer projects.
• Assist VA and SSDI Benefits Attorneys with initial claims and case file openings.
• Gather, review, and organize records; prepare filings under attorney supervision.
• Maintain electronic case files and document correspondence and progress.
• Track deadlines, grant reporting, and project evaluations; support training materials.
• Communicate with beneficiaries, providers, and record custodians as directed.
