Job Opportunity: Veteran Service Officer Technician

This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFD), or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.

The Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) is recruiting for a Veteran Service Officer Technician who performs administrative clerical support work involving complex programs and services within the department. Incumbents will support case management and claims processes, interpret and explain program regulations, policies, and procedures, explain program benefits and resources, and prepare necessary correspondence and reports; maintaining records.

Conditions of Employment

Incumbents must obtain California Department of Veterans Affairs (CALVET) accreditation within eighteen (18) months of hire.

San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Candidate Requirements
  • Must possess two (2) years of full-time equivalent work experience performing complex clerical tasks in an office environment, including case management, determining eligibility, or providing services. Experience should be comparable to duties performed at the San Bernardino County Senior Office Assistant (OAIII) level or higher. Retail sales and food service experience are not qualifying.
  • All work experience must be clearly detailed on the application and supplemental questionnaire; resumes are not reviewed. Ensure all information is current and accurate.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, customer service, time management, and computer skills. VA benefits and case management experience are highly desirable. Candidates demonstrating integrity, loyalty, empathy, active listening, and strong communication skills are preferred.
