Job summary

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) is seeking a Veterans Outreach Specialist to support homeless veterans and at‑risk families through the SSVF program. Under supervision, you will identify needs and assist access to housing, benefits, and services while maintaining records in HMIS.

The role emphasizes outreach in local communities, coordination with partners, and meeting monthly enrollment targets in a supportive, team‑oriented environment. A 35‑hour workweek is provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• One year of providing psychiatric rehabilitation services to a disabled/low income or homeless population required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred for advancement.
• Knowledge of health care and social service resource systems helpful.
• Strong communication, listening and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an outreach log and report veteran outreach bi-weekly.
• Provide information and link veterans to Military Resource Center and services.
• Visit local shelters, hospitals, and community sites to engage homeless veterans.
• Outreach to hard-to-engage veterans and coordinate with VA/community partners.
• Assist Housing and Benefits Specialist with housing, food, health care, and entitlements.
• Screen for eligibility and coordinate initial assessments with case management.
• Meet monthly prescreen outcomes for enrollments and document results.
• Share information about SSVF services and community resources with participants.
• Collaborate with team to ensure seamless delivery of services.
• Attend community meetings and act as a program spokesperson.
