Job summary

South Putnam Animal Hospital offers a DVM student externship/preceptorship designed to enhance clinical skills in a small animal practice. Externs work under supervision to gain hands-on experience in history taking, exams, diagnostics, and treatment planning, while also scrubbing in to surgery and maintaining medical records.

The program runs 2–8 weeks, typically 2–3 weeks, and includes a weekly stipend of 250 dollars.

Qualifications

• Be enrolled in an accredited DVM program.
• You are authorized to work in the United States.
• You must carry professional liability insurance (AVMA PLIT) with coverage submitted to the program.

Responsibilities

• Externs work under supervision to gather histories and perform physical examinations.
• Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans and assist in case management.
• Scrub in to surgery and participate in all aspects of patient care.
• Maintain clear medical records (SOAPs) within daily practice time limits.
