Job summary

Western Veterinary Partners offers veterinary students an externship to apply classroom knowledge in clinical settings across AAHA-accredited, companion, exotics, mixed, and feline-only practices.

You’ll work closely with supervising veterinarians, gain hands-on experience in client communication, treatment planning, in-house labs, and observe or assist surgical procedures. A $1,000 stipend is provided, and candidates may expand their veterinary network during the program.

Qualifications

• Veterinary students from any year can apply for externship.
• Externship blocks or informal externship experience welcome.
• Commitment to professional development and client care.

Responsibilities

• Learn practice management tasks under supervision of the veterinarian.
• Engage in client communication, gather patient histories, perform physical exams, review estimates.
• Own cases by creating treatment plans, diagnostics, and managing in-house labs.
• Observe/assist or perform surgical procedures including dental procedures.
• Develop time management, record keeping, and relationship-building with the medical team and clients.
