Job summary

Back Cove Animal Hospital offers a veterinary externship where students work closely with a supervising veterinarian to gain hands-on experience in histories, exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery. Externships range from two to eight weeks, with opportunities to practice communication with the medical team and clients.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion may receive a travel/living expense stipend to support their externship experience.

Qualifications

• Gaining experience in gathering patient histories and performing physical exams.
• Assisting or performing surgical procedures under supervision.
• Learning to create treatment plans and manage diagnostics and dentistry services.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.

• Observe/assist or perform dental services and surgical procedures.
• Medical management of patients under supervising veterinarian guidance.
