Position Summary: Responsible for completing routine welding and fitting assignments within clearly defined processes while working under moderate supervision.

Job Description:

  • Uses metal core MIG, flux core, subarc, TIG, or stick welding processes (must pass two or more)
  • Welds brackets and braces, uses grinders, positions pieces using measuring instruments and hand tools, performs position welds on code materials
  • Proficient in flame and plasma cutting torches
  • Reads and understands blueprints, performs own fit-up
  • Operates basic cutting equipment
  • Layouts and marks weld points on parts using rulers, squares, scribes, or templates
  • Works with different types and sizes of structural materials
  • Operates cutting equipment and various tools including iron worker, overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machine, welding machine, tube bending machine, pneumatic hand tools
  • Assembles components and fabricates equipment as needed

Required Tests:

  • Must pass a 6G weld test (vessel or pipe)
  • Must pass a written fitters exam

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or combined education and experience
  • At least five (5) years of related experience and/or training, including welding school or on-the-job training
  • Knowledge of different pipe and vessel materials

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 30 pounds
  • Bending, squatting, climbing, pulling, stooping, twisting, reaching, working at heights
