Job summary

Halifax Veterinary Center is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care. A versatile technician will engage in patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures in a fast-paced setting.

You will assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgery, and dentistry, handle patients safely, maintain records, and educate clients.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats
• Experience assisting with exams, treatments, surgery setup and assisting, radiology, and outpatient procedures
• Proficiency in phlebotomy, SQ injections, laboratory sample collection, and inpatient nursing care
• Ability to collect patient histories, obtain weights and vital signs, and maintain accurate medical records
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment
• Compassionate communication with clients and team members, collaborative work ethic
• Physical ability to lift, bend, stand for extended periods, and safely restrain patients
• Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and client service

Responsibilities

• Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
• Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry
• Provide safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
• Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
• Build positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
• Maintain clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces
