Job summary

Southend Pharmacy is hiring a Verification Pharmacist to join our fast-paced compounding team in Houston, TX. You will ensure clinical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and quality verification prior to dispensing compounded medications.

The ideal candidate has a Pharm.D. or ACPE-accredited degree, is licensed in Texas, and brings 4+ years in a high-volume pharmacy environment with strong attention to detail and regulatory knowledge. Onsite role with full benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or B.S. in Pharmacy from ACPE-accredited school.
  • Active, unrestricted Texas Pharmacist License in good standing (TSBP).
  • Minimum of four (4) years licensed pharmacist experience in retail, specialty, compounding, hospital, or high-volume setting.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, medication verification, prescription review, and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform final pharmacist verification of compounded prescriptions prior to dispensing, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Verify prescription orders for clinical appropriateness, dosage accuracy, patient information, drug interactions, formulation integrity, and labeling requirements.
  • Review compounded medications to ensure adherence to USP <795>, <797>, <800>, Texas Board regulations, DEA requirements, FDA guidance and SOPs.
  • Ensure all documentation, MFRs, batch records, and quality documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Collaborate with sterile and non-sterile technicians to maintain efficient workflow and high-quality standards.
  • Support verification activities for high-volume operations while maintaining patient safety and accuracy.
  • Assist in identifying discrepancies, formulation questions, and documentation issues.

About the Role

Southend Pharmacy is seeking an experienced Verification Pharmacist to join our growing pharmacy operations team. This role is responsible for ensuring the clinical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and quality verification of compounded medications prior to dispensing. The Verification Pharmacist serves as a critical quality checkpoint by reviewing prescriptions, verifying compounded medications, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and collaborating closely with pharmacy technicians, sterile and non-sterile compounding teams, quality assurance, and pharmacy leadership.

The ideal candidate possesses exceptional attention to detail, strong clinical judgment, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a high-volume production environment while maintaining an unwavering commitment to patient safety and regulatory compliance.

This is a full-time, onsite position located at Southend Pharmacy, 4802 North Sam Houston Pkwy W, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77086. Candidates must be able to work onsite as scheduled. Weekends may be required based on business needs
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform final pharmacist verification of compounded prescriptions prior to dispensing, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Verify prescription orders for clinical appropriateness, dosage accuracy, patient information, drug interactions, formulation integrity, and labeling requirements.
  • Review compounded medications to ensure adherence to USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, FDA guidance, and Southend Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure all prescription documentation, compounding records, Master Formulation Records (MFRs), batch records, and quality documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Collaborate closely with sterile and non-sterile pharmacy technicians to maintain efficient workflow while ensuring the highest quality standards.
  • Support verification activities for high-volume pharmacy operations while maintaining exceptional accuracy and patient safety.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving prescription discrepancies, formulation questions, documentation issues, and medication-related concerns.
  • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to pharmacy technicians regarding prescription processing, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with all pharmacy policies, quality assurance initiatives, and regulatory inspection readiness.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and operational excellence projects.
  • Monitor medication inventory as needed and assist in minimizing waste while ensuring medication availability.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Foster a collaborative, professional, and patient-centered work environment while supporting cross-functional pharmacy operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Active, unrestricted Texas Pharmacist License in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of licensed pharmacist experience in a retail, specialty, compounding, hospital, or high-volume pharmacy environment.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, medication verification, prescription review, and patient safety practices.
  • Working knowledge of USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and HIPAA.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately verify prescriptions while maintaining productivity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across pharmacy operations, quality, regulatory, and leadership teams.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems and electronic prescription processing software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working within a 503A or 503B compounding pharmacy.
  • Experience verifying both sterile and non-sterile compounded medications.
  • IV Sterile Compounding Certification or demonstrated sterile compounding experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of USP <795>, USP <797>, and USP <800> standards.
  • Experience supporting high-volume pharmacy operations.
  • Previous experience with pharmacy workflow optimization, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Experience working with pharmacy automation systems and electronic verification platforms.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or pharmacist-in-charge responsibilities preferred.

  • Day Shift
  • Hours: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
