Job summary

Ciena in the United States is seeking a Validation Engineer to validate the WaveLogic Optical Modem through test planning, execution, and automation. You will collaborate with customers, product management, and R&D to ensure high-quality optical networking solutions.

The role emphasizes lab and field validation, development of test plans, test environments, and defect tracking through to resolution. Python automation is a key contributor to efficiency and repeatability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Optical Communications.
• Internship, co-op, or project work related to validation/testing.
• Knowledge of coherent optical modem concepts and optical networks.
• Experience in a lab environment with lab test equipment.
• Ability to write, run, and fix Python automation scripts.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Leadership and team-oriented development mindset.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive test plans to validate customer use-cases and product capabilities.
• Build test environments for execution across product features.
• Perform validation testing and document outcomes.
• Report defects and drive follow-up with design team through closure.
• Summarize test metrics and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to validate solutions and ensure specification compliance.
• Develop and augment automation test cases to improve execution efficiency.
