Job description

Marketing Manager

Siesta Valley Bowl | Orinda, California

About Siesta Valley Bowl

Siesta Valley Bowl is an independent outdoor live music venue located in the hills between Orinda and Berkeley, at the former home of California Shakespeare Theater.

We're running an intimate, beautiful outdoor venue where great artists play under the stars, audiences have an exceptional experience, and live music feels like live music should. It's a venue for music lovers that's owned and operated by music lovers.

We're looking for a Marketing Manager to help us fill the place.

The Job

The Marketing Manager owns the day-to-day marketing of Siesta Valley Bowl and every show on our calendar.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role. You will personally build campaigns, manage organic social, buy and optimize digital media, write and deploy email, pitch reporters, work with radio stations, coordinate promotions, and serve as the primary marketing contact for artists and their teams.

You will work with a Graphic Artist, Web Developer, and Box Office Manager. You'll also manage a small group of outside vendors and media partners.

You aren't being hired to supervise a marketing department, develop strategy, or put together messaging decks and brand guidelines that no one uses.

You're being hired to execute.

Organic Social

Organic social is one of our most important marketing channels. You will own it.

That means taking responsibility for the strategy, calendar, voice, execution, growth, and performance of Siesta Valley Bowl's social presence, with particular emphasis on Instagram and Facebook.

You'll:

  • Develop and manage the organic social calendar
  • Create a steady cadence of engaging content around artists, shows, the venue, and the Siesta Valley experience
  • Write and publish posts, captions, Stories, Reels, and other social content
  • Develop content specifically for social rather than simply repurposing ad mats
  • Work alongside our Graphic Artist and other team members to develop and deploy photography, video, graphics, and short-form content
  • Coordinate artist collaborations, shared posts, tags, reposts, and other opportunities to reach artist audiences
  • Capture or coordinate real-time content during events
  • Engage with followers and help build an active community around the venue
  • Track what works and continuously improve the content mix

You don't need to personally design every graphic, shoot every photograph, or edit every video.

You do need to know what content we need, get it made, put it to work, and own the results.

Artist & Show Marketing

You will be listed as the Marketing Contact in our artist contracts and will serve as Siesta Valley Bowl's primary marketing point person for artists, agents, managers, labels, publicists, promoters, and artist marketing teams.

For every show, you'll own the marketing relationship from confirmation through show day.

You'll:

  • Establish contact with the artist's marketing team and manage that relationship
  • Collect approved artwork, photos, video, bios, tour creative, ad mats, and other assets
  • Coordinate announcements, presales, onsales, passwords, timing, and campaign calendars
  • Provide artist teams with venue assets, ticket links, tracking information, copy, and promotional materials
  • Coordinate paid and organic campaigns with artist teams
  • Identify opportunities for artist participation in social, email, radio, press, contests, and promotions
  • Make sure contractual marketing obligations and promotional commitments are fulfilled
  • Monitor ticket sales and adjust the marketing plan as the show develops

When an artist's team asks, , the answer is you.

Paid Media

Deep, hands-on experience with Facebook and Instagram advertising is required.

This isn't a role where you send instructions to an agency and review a monthly report. You should be capable of opening Meta Ads Manager and doing the work yourself.

You'll:

  • Configure, deploy, manage, and optimize Meta campaigns
  • Build prospecting, retargeting, onsale, and urgency campaigns
  • Develop custom audiences, lookalikes, retargeting pools, and artist- and interest-based audiences
  • Manage pixels, conversion tracking, and campaign attribution
  • Test creative, copy, audiences, placements, formats, and offers
  • Allocate budgets across shows and campaigns based on performance and ticket-sales needs
  • Identify underperforming campaigns quickly and change tactics
  • Measure conversion, customer-acquisition cost, return on ad spend, and other meaningful performance metrics
  • Translate campaign data into decisions about what we do next

Experience with Google, YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, or other paid channels is valuable. Meta expertise is essential.

Email Marketing

Email is another core sales channel, and we're looking for someone who is an expert email marketer.

You'll own the email program, including:

  • Show announcements and onsales
  • Presales and targeted artist campaigns
  • Weekly and periodic venue emails
  • Promotional and urgency campaigns
  • Day-of-show guest communications
  • Audience segmentation
  • List growth and first-party data strategy
  • Automated and triggered campaigns
  • A/B testing of subject lines, content, timing, audiences, and offers
  • Deliverability and list health
  • Conversion and revenue measurement

You should understand that a great concert email isn't just an attractive newsletter. Its job is to get the right person excited enough to buy a ticket.

PR & Media Relations

You will serve as Siesta Valley Bowl's primary day-to-day contact for reporters and media.

You'll:

  • Develop relationships with local, regional, music, arts, entertainment, and lifestyle reporters
  • Proactively pitch stories about Siesta Valley Bowl, our artists, and the broader story of the venue
  • Develop actual story angles rather than simply distributing announcements
  • Write and distribute press releases and media advisories
  • Respond to reporter inquiries
  • Coordinate interviews and onsite media
  • Maintain useful, current media lists
  • Coordinate publicity opportunities with artist publicists and PR teams
  • Look for opportunities to make Siesta Valley part of the broader cultural conversation in the Bay Area
Radio, Promotions & Partnerships

Concert marketing happens in more places than Meta and Instagram.

You'll also own the traditional and grassroots promotional tactics that help sell shows, including:

  • Radio advertising
  • Radio relationships and promotions
  • Ticket giveaways and contests
  • Media partnerships
  • Promotional ticket allocations
  • Community partnerships
  • Cross-promotions with artists, sponsors, businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations
  • Event calendars and listings
  • Grassroots and street-level promotion when appropriate
  • Creative last-minute promotions when a show needs help

If there's a credible, cost-effective way to put a show in front of the people most likely to attend, we want you thinking about it.

Venue Marketing

Your job isn't only to sell Friday night's concert.

You'll also help build Siesta Valley Bowl itself into a destination and a recognizable Bay Area live-music brand.

You'll help us:

  • Introduce new audiences to the venue
  • Grow our social and email audiences
  • Turn first-time guests into repeat customers
  • Cross-sell audiences between artists and genres
  • Communicate what makes seeing a show at Siesta Valley different
  • Develop content that makes people want to be here even before they know who's playing
  • Support sponsorship, community, and institutional marketing initiatives
  • Build an audience that increasingly buys tickets because they trust the venue as well as the artist
How You'll Work

You'll work alongside an existing Graphic Artist, Web Developer, Box Office Manager, venue leadership, and production team, plus outside photographers, videographers, media partners, printers, advertising resources, and other vendors.

None of the internal team members reports to you.

That makes collaboration particularly important. You need to be able to identify what you need, brief people clearly, establish deadlines, give useful feedback, and get excellent work from people without relying on organizational authority.

You'll also need to keep multiple campaigns moving simultaneously. On any given day, one show may be announcing, another going on sale, another selling well, another struggling, and another happening tonight.

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will have:

  • Significant hands-on experience marketing concerts, venues, festivals, live entertainment, hospitality, consumer events, or another ticket-driven business
  • Deep expertise with Meta Ads Manager and Facebook/Instagram advertising
  • Demonstrated ability to personally build, deploy, analyze, and optimize paid campaigns
  • Strong organic social experience, particularly Instagram and Facebook
  • Expert-level email marketing experience
  • Experience with PR, reporter relationships, and proactive media pitching
  • Experience with radio, ticket giveaways, contests, promotional partnerships, and other concert-marketing tactics
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong analytical instincts and comfort working with ticket-sales and campaign-performance data
  • Strong project-management skills
  • The ability to manage numerous campaigns, deadlines, budgets, and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Experience working directly with artists, managers, agents, labels, publicists, or entertainment marketing teams
  • The ability to move quickly without becoming sloppy
  • The willingness to experiment, measure, learn, and change course

Experience with Ticketmaster/TM1, Hive, Meta Business Manager, Google Analytics, and comparable ticketing, CRM, email, advertising, and analytics platforms is a significant plus.

And yes, you should probably love live music.

The Person

Live-event marketing has an unusually short feedback loop.

There's a show on Friday whether you've sold 200 tickets or 700. You can see the sales curve. You can see whether the email worked. You can see whether the ad converted. And sometimes the campaign everyone thought would work simply doesn't.

The right person finds that exciting.

We're looking for someone creative enough to come up with a completely different idea, analytical enough to know whether it worked, and practical enough to get it deployed before Friday.

Siesta Valley Bowl is new. We're still building our audiences, our traditions, our systems, and our marketing playbook.

We want someone who wants to help build them with us.

You live in the Bay Area and can come to the venue once per week, and on show days.
