Definition

This is an entry‑level, professional staff, full‑time position in the City’s Fire and Rescue Services Department. An individual in this position will be responsible for fire prevention, suppression and rescue services.

Examples of Work
  • Work schedule will be a 24 hour shift followed by 48 hours off.
  • Respond to emergency incidents by performing firefighting, rescue and emergency medical care; and completing appropriate documentation for emergency incidents.
  • Maintain the facility by performing minor maintenance to station and grounds; completing work requests for station maintenance; performing lawn care; and performing cleaning of station contents
  • Assists with daily apparatus inspections and assures apparatus readiness; responsible for minor equipment and apparatus repairs and maintenance; completes required documentation and reports to assure equipment and apparatus are repaired
  • Provide tours of the station and apparatus; provide fire prevention and safety presentations to the public; conduct pre‑fire planning of commercial and industrial occupancies; conduct courtesy home fire safety inspections; and conduct courtesy home fire smoke detector inspections, installation and maintenance.
  • Complete training by attending and assist with company level training; participating in required departmental training; participating in additional training and education opportunities; maintain adequate continuing education to maintain certifications; assist with employee development; and assist the training division as needed.
  • Provide input, feedback, research, and manpower as needed to assure the department is providing the best service possible to the public.
  • Maintains continuous awareness and adherence of department and City polices and procedures.
  • Maintain personal physical fitness and participate in on‑duty physical fitness activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, or Certification

High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate, REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Firefighter from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, and Basic EMT by the Texas Department of State Health Services or National Registry. Please submit certifications with application.
