Job summary

HNTB Corporation has an internship opportunity in Boston, MA within the Vehicle Engineering group. You will assist engineering teams with tasks, participate in research and design activities, and help prepare drawings and documents under supervision.

You will learn about vehicle procurement, operation and maintenance across Light Rail, Heavy Rail, and other transit vehicles, with growth in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program.
  • Basic understanding of engineering, geometry and algebra.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering teams in tasks and duties.
  • Assist Engineer with research, development and design of projects.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting assigned department(s) and/or project(s) by performing basic engineering related tasks which may reflect elements of standard post-secondary engineering curriculum. As an intern in our Vehicle Engineering group, you will be involved in projects with our National Transit and Rail Team and be a part of the growing vehicle practice. You will learn about the procurement, modifications and support of the operation and maintenance of Light Rail Vehicles, Heavy Rail vehicles, Commuter Rail Locomotives and Coaches, Buses, and the next generation of Zero Emission vehicles. The position is based out of our Boston, MA office. Relocation and housing are NOT provided for this position.

What You'll Do
  • Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties.
  • Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects.
  • Assists Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
What You'll Bring
  • Understands engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
  • Shows proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Accepts and applies direction from peers and supervisors.
  • Obtains an understanding of introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations
  • Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in a dynamic work setting.
What We Prefer
  • Completion of 2 years of post-secondary engineering program
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
  • Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure
