Vehicle Testing Specialist - Autonomous Vehicles / ADAS

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Employment Type: 6-Month Contract

Schedule: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $40.00/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a Vehicle Testing Specialist to support daily testing activities for an advanced Autonomous Vehicle (AV) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) program.

This position will be responsible for preparing development vehicles for testing, executing established test plans, evaluating vehicle hardware and software functionality, identifying potential issues, and documenting testing results. The information gathered during testing will provide critical feedback to software engineering and operations teams as they continue developing and improving autonomous driving technology.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with autonomous vehicles, ADAS, automotive testing, hardware/software testing, or a similar technical environment. Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting technical issues and have an understanding of common autonomous vehicle technologies, including cameras, radar, sensors, and supporting software systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare AV and ADAS development vehicles and associated systems for daily testing activities.
• Execute established vehicle and software test plans accurately and consistently.
• Assess hardware and software readiness prior to testing and identify issues that could impact vehicle functionality or test results.
• Troubleshoot basic computer, hardware, software, and vehicle-system issues.
• Monitor vehicle and system behavior throughout testing and identify unexpected performance or abnormalities.
• Work closely with software engineers and operations teams to coordinate and continuously improve testing procedures.
• Partner with Vehicle Operators to conduct tests safely, professionally, and efficiently.
• Capture detailed testing observations, results, issues, and relevant data.
• Prepare clear and accurate testing documentation and formal reports for engineering teams.
• Follow established testing procedures while providing feedback on opportunities to improve testing efficiency and quality.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety and serve as a safety champion throughout all vehicle testing activities.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in hardware testing, software testing, automotive testing, data collection/data entry, or a similar technical environment.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting computers, hardware, software, or other technical systems.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow structured testing procedures.
• Ability to accurately document technical observations and testing results.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively with software engineers, operations personnel, and Vehicle Operators.
• Genuine interest in understanding autonomous vehicle technology and autonomy software functionality.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving technical testing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with ADAS, autonomous vehicles, automotive testing, vehicle validation, or automotive technology.
• Familiarity with autonomous vehicle hardware and sensors, including cameras and radar.
• Experience working with Linux environments.
• Understanding of software development and testing practices.
• Experience with collaboration and development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Slack.Experience using Google Workspace.
• Familiarity with the interaction between vehicle hardware, sensors, and software systems is highly desirable.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will be a detail-oriented, technically curious, and safety-conscious tester who enjoys working directly with emerging automotive technology. They should be comfortable working hands-on with vehicles and technical systems, following structured test procedures, troubleshooting issues, and communicating detailed findings to engineering teams.

Experience with AV/ADAS technology is highly valuable, but candidates with strong hardware/software testing backgrounds, technical troubleshooting skills, and an interest in autonomous driving technology should also be considered.
