The North Carolina Zoo is seeking an enthusiastic Vehicle Supervisor to oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair operations. This position manages the computerized work order system, prioritizes work assignments, orders parts and equipment, and supervises four Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technicians. Responsibilities include hiring, performance management, evaluations, time management, and supporting staff development for currently four staff mechanics.
The supervisor ensures all Zoo motorized vehicles and equipment remain in safe, reliable working conditions through preventive maintenance and repair, in compliance with State and Federal regulations, including OSHA requirements and proper handling of hazardous materials. Equipment overseen includes trams, buses, heavy and light trucks, passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, agricultural and construction equipment, small-engine tools, generators, and welders. The position functions as a working supervisor and performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs as needed.

Necessary Special Requirements
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
The Facilities/Maintenance unit maintains Zoo facilities and equipment to keep them in good working condition and proper working order. This unit constructs small structures such as animal caging, decking, and small buildings. It installs and maintains plumbing, HVAC, electrical and performs painting and physical plant maintenance. The unit operates a vehicle repair shop. It is responsible for major exhibit buildings, restaurants, gift shops, public and staff restrooms, support buildings, greenhouses, and numerous animal holding areas. It is also responsible for servicing and maintenance of all motorized vehicles and equipment.
