Job summary

Peterbilt Motors Company seeks an energetic Vehicle Performance Test Engineer to conduct comprehensive performance testing of Peterbilt and competitor trucks. You will define test plans, instrument test articles, analyze data, and present findings to drive product improvements.

The role requires a Bachelor in Engineering, 5+ years of testing experience, and CDL-A or plan to obtain. Domestic travel up to 10% may be necessary; MS Office proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Previous testing experience or strong desire as career interest required.
• Previous experience instrumenting and de-instrumenting test articles required.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) or strong desire to obtain required.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

• Support definition and establishment of performance targets.
• Travel to customer sites to collect data and resolve performance concerns when necessary.

Requisition Summary

Seeking an energetic, independent engineer with interest in creating, defining, and launching the next generation of industry-leading trucks. As a Vehicle Performance Test Engineer in the Vehicle Properties and Performance group, the primary responsibility will be to conduct a variety of vehicle performance testing of existing Peterbilt and competitor products, identify opportunities for improvement, and conduct research and development of concepts and prototypes. Types of performance testing will include but may not be limited to temperature, fuel economy, noise, vibration, and overall subjective driver evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with test equipment such as DEWESoft, UniCAN, CANoe, Kvaser, SCADAS, LabView, Head Acoustics, Siemens Test Lab, and Larson Davis strongly preferred
• Experience developing and maintaining custom test equipment and electrical harnesses preferred
• Proficient and/or experienced in conducting data analysis and generating graphs/charts preferred
• MatLab, Python, Visual Basic, machine learning programming experience preferred
• Strength in handling multiple tasks and projects preferred
• Experience utilizing PTC Creo as a design tool preferred
• Six Sigma experience preferred
