Job summary

J.B. Poindexter & Co., Inc. seeks a hands‑on Mechanical Designer to take product concepts from requirements through detailed design, prototype build, validation, and design release. The role focuses on commercial vehicle bodies, mechanical systems, and custom projects across JBPCO business units.

The ideal candidate has SolidWorks expertise, GD&T knowledge, and experience with BOMs, change control, and DFMEA. Occasional travel to JBPCO sites is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of mechanical design/product-development experience.
• Strong SolidWorks skills for 3D design and 2D drawings.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up and ASME drafting standards.
• Experience with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, machining, casting, or molding.
• Experience with engineering BOMs, design release and change control.
• Willingness to travel to JBPCO locations as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD models and assemblies for commercial vehicle bodies and components.
• Create and release detailed 2D drawings with proper GD&T and BOMs.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and evaluate fit and interfaces.
• Support prototypes, testing, and design reviews across units.
• Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and supplier teams to ensure manufacturability.
