Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections and basic repairs on utility vehicles and equipment. Includes, but is not limited to passenger cars, pickup trucks, SUV's, medium and heavy trucks, trailers and off-road equipment. Maintenance operations may take place in the garage or at field locations during various work schedules depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
Performs preventative maintenance (PM) inspections on light & medium duty vehicles/equipment and assists higher classification of technicians withPM's on all vehicles and equipment.
Performs required State emission inspections.
Assists with Federal DOT inspections.
Adheres to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) for DOT inspections.
Provides assistance on dielectric test inspections.
Performs diagnostics and repairs on light and medium vehicles, (gas & diesel) forklifts, trailers and powered equipment.
Maintains the appropriate level of technical competence required to diagnose and repair vehicles/equipment.
Performs hydraulic brake systems and component repairs.
Assists with hydraulic component repairs.
Assists with air brake system inspections and repairs.
Assists higher classification of technicians with diagnostics and repairs on all vehicles/equipment.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs basic electric system components, cranking, lighting, charging and assist with basic A/C systems and component repairs.
Basic/Required Qualifications:
Vehicle Maintenance Technician I
Two year associate degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics from a vocational school
In addition to required education above, one (1) year minimum of related experience
In lieu of the required education, high school diploma AND two (2) years minimum of related experience
Vehicle Maintenance Technician II
Two year associate degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics from a vocational school
In addition to required education above, two (2) years minimum of related experience
In lieu of the required education, high school diploma AND three (3) years minimum of related experience
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Electric Utility Fleet Experience
Basic Hydraulic Experience
ASE Certifications
AWS Welding Certifications
Effective communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
Demonstrate ability to interact effectively with peers, customers and management
Demonstrate ability to make sound decisions, exercising good judgement and setting priorities
Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Experience with computer equipment, laptops, keyboard, tablets, etc.

Working Conditions:
Rotating shifts, 7am - 3:30pm & 9am - 6pm, 2nd shift possible
Must have a valid driver's license
Must be able to obtain "CDL Class A" driver's license within a designated (120 days) timeframe
Must be able to respond to emergency situations
Must reside within 60 minutes of work location
Must be able to stand and walk on concrete surface for extended periods of time
Must be able to work in garage environment with associated noise, fumes and dust and tolerate heights in aerial devices
Must be able to lift and/or push at least 100lbs several times per shift
Must be able to carry at least 50 lbs a distance of at least 25 feet
Repeated bending and twisting is required
Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility.
