Job summary

Purple Line Transit Operators LLC is seeking a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate daily activities of Vehicle Maintenance Technicians and ensure preventive and corrective maintenance is performed safely and efficiently. You will assist in implementing maintenance programs, documenting activities, and supporting contract, safety, and operational requirements.

The role requires a background in rail or fleet vehicle systems, leadership experience, and proficiency with diagnostic software

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or related technical field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of vehicle maintenance experience, including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory role.
• Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repair of complex vehicle systems.

Responsibilities

• Establish procedures, schedules, and documentation for vehicle maintenance programs.
• Support asset management and preventive maintenance systems; e.g., Trapeze EAM.
• Oversee vehicle handovers from contractors, including inspections and documentation.
• Procure and prepare tools, benches, and equipment for maintenance.
• Supervise technicians; assign tasks and ensure quality and safety standards.
• Provide technical guidance on maintenance procedures and tools.

About the Organization Purple Line Transit Operators (PLTO) is a member of a private consortium (Purple Line Transit Partners) which holds a Public-Private Partnership (P3) contract with the Maryland Department of Transportation/Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT/MTA) for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and financing of the Purple Line, a new 16 mile/21 station light rail transit line located in Montgomery County and Prince George's County, Maryland (https://www.purplelinemd.com/). PLTO's role in the Project is for the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Purple Line for a 30-year O&M Period after the service opens to the public, currently scheduled for winter 2027. Prior to this opening, PLTO is responsible for participating in system design, testing, and service start-up activities; conducting certain facilities and equipment maintenance scopes; and building the organization which will perform the O&M Period activities. PLTO is a limited liability company comprised of two members Alternate Concepts Inc. (ACI) and CAF USA, Inc. (CAF). ACI is an industry leader in mass transit operations and maintenance and is the O&M provider for the only two Design-Build-Operate-and-Maintain (DBOM)/Design-Build-Finance-Operate-and-Maintain (DBFOM) transit projects in the U.S: Tren Urbano in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Eagle P3 in Denver, Colorado. CAF USA, Inc. (a division of the international Spanish railway manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) designs, manufactures, maintains, and supplies equipment and components for railway systems and is a certified rail maintenance organization with a presence on five continents.

General Description

The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor supports the Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent by coordinating and supervising the daily activities of Vehicle Maintenance Technicians. This position ensures preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to established standards. The Supervisor assists the Superintendent with implementing maintenance programs, documenting activities, and supporting contract, safety, and operational requirements.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

• Assist in establishing procedures, schedules, and documentation for vehicle maintenance programs.
• Support the development of asset management and preventive maintenance systems such as Trapeze EAM.
• Participate in vehicle handovers from contractors, including inspections, documentation, and movement of vehicles through facilities.
• Contribute to the procurement and preparation of tools, benches, and equipment needed for maintenance.
• Supervise Vehicle Maintenance Technicians by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring work meets quality and safety standards.
• Provide technical guidance on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and proper use of tools and equipment.

• Verify completion of work orders and ensure accurate documentation of labor, materials, and results in the electronic asset management system.
• Conduct routine inspections of vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.
• Support the Superintendent by monitoring maintenance indicators, identifying recurring issues, and assisting with preventive maintenance initiatives.
• Ensure maintenance areas are stocked with necessary materials and that tools and equipment are properly maintained.
• Assist in overseeing subcontracted services related to vehicle cleaning, corrective maintenance, or technical support.
• Enforce safety procedures and administrative rules to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Respond to vehicle related emergencies and provide direction to technicians in implementing corrective actions.
• Provide input on maintenance improvements and staff performance.
• Serve as acting lead in the Superintendent’s and Manager’s absence for routine operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of rail or fleet vehicle systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and technical documentation.
• Skilled in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex vehicle systems.
• Ability to train/instruct staff on procedures, safety protocols, and proper use of tools/equipment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills for coordinating multiple priorities.
• Familiarity with asset/work order systems (e.g., Trapeze EAM or equivalent).
• Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, contractors, and management.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic software and office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse teams.

• Valid state driver’s license required; Class A CDL highly preferred.
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including outdoors, inclement weather, noisy environments, and near moving mechanical systems.
• Ability to wear and correctly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Must be able to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.

Education and Experience

• Associate’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related technical field preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of vehicle maintenance experience, including at least one (1) year in a lead, or supervisory role.
• Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repair of complex vehicle systems required.
• Familiarity with diagnostic software and electronic documentation systems required.
