Position
Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor – 2nd Shift (2:00 pm–12:00 am M‑F)
Responsibilities
- Supervise the maintenance staff, including training, scheduling work assignments, and authorization of overtime ensuring all work is performed safely and complies with local, state, federal regulations and company policies.
- Perform supervisory functions including completing employee reviews, monitoring/tracking attendance, and holding team members accountable.
- Prioritize work to meet operational needs and ensure efficiency.
- Coach and mentor direct reports with proper use of SAP programming and assignment.
- Regularly communicate with management, operations, and others regarding status of fleet vehicles, containers and other equipment.
- Ensure maintenance department meets quality and safety standards.
- Perform and monitor vehicle inspections.
- Review work orders and maintain parts inventory appropriately.
- Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and timely.
- Train and direct employees to meet or exceed standards.
- Work cross‑functionally and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co‑workers, employees, and managers.
- Conduct employee observations and work audits to ensure safety and procedures are followed.
- Perform road calls to repair vehicles as necessary after breakdowns.
- Road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs as needed.
- Perform mechanical duties as needed.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Supervisory Responsibility
Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with repair manuals, electrical wiring, and schematics necessary for troubleshooting.
- Attention to detail and ability to track and maintain documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, SAP a plus.
- Proficient in reading and speaking English for communication, understanding directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
Experience & Knowledge
- 3 years performing repairs and maintenance on diesel‑powered heavy vehicles, hydraulics, equipment and related components.
- Waste industry experience, a plus.
- Management experience preferred.
- Experience working with welding equipment preferred.Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and DOT rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift/carry/push/pull up to 10 lb.
- Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lb.
- Rarely lift/carry/push/pull up to 100 lb.
- Occasionally work outside.
- Frequently work in changing temperatures.
- Continuously work in wet/humid conditions.
- Continuously work in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
- Occasionally stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl.
- Occasionally climb or balance.
- Occasionally sit.
- Frequently stand/walk.
Additional Working Conditions
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- Must not have any DUI or OVI within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
- Possible exposure to high‑traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Must be available for 24‑hour emergency calls.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre‑employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak English.
Education
High School diploma (required). General Education Diploma (preferred).
