Job description

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. Our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Stage Fluids and Components team is responsible for all fluid systems and components on the Terran R launch vehicle. This includes systems for liquid oxygen and liquid natural gas propellants, as well as the supporting helium and nitrogen gases. We also design the valves used within these systems on the stages and engines. Our work requires close integration with the Structures, Propulsion, and Avionics Hardware teams, as well as collaboration with the GNC and performance teams to ensure our systems meet the requirements for launching and landing a reusable rocket. Additionally, we coordinate with Manufacturing and Test teams to ensure hardware is properly built and tested.

About the Role:

You will be involved in developing the architecture for the upcoming Terran R vehicle and will be responsible for guiding the company's approach to gas storage on a reusable rocket—both in the near term and long term.

Potential projects include:

  • Partnering with third-party vendors on the design and analysis of gas storage COPVs
  • Collaborating with thermo-fluid engineers on vehicle gas system design and operation
  • Establishing test campaigns for COPV qualification and acceptance
  • Performing tests and analyzing data
  • Supporting the integration of COPVs on the rocket
  • Managing vendor relationships
  • Conducting trade studies to improve gas storage solutions for future vehicles
  • Assessing long-term COPV design and manufacturing plans
About You:
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or a related technical field
  • At least 2 years of relevant technical experience
  • Experience with pressure vessel engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of fluid and mechanical system design and operation
Nice to Haves (but not required):
  • Experience with COPVs or composite structures
  • Experience working in fast-paced, autonomous environments
  • Proficiency with CAD software
  • Experience with launch vehicle systems

Relativity Space is committed to transparency and fairness in compensation. Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
