Job summary

Tejas Equipment Rentals is hiring an experienced, journey-level Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic II at our San Benito branch. You'll diagnose, repair, and overhaul skid steers, excavators, aerial lifts, class 8 trucks, service trucks, and trailers, with gas and diesel engines in shop or field settings.

Qualifications

• Journeylevel experience diagnosing, maintaining, and overhauling engines, power transmission and hydraulics.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Ability to work in shop and field environments in all weather conditions.
• Comfort lifting up to 90 pounds and handling equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform major and minor repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, and differentials.
• Diagnose engine, hydraulic, hydrostatic, and 12V electrical issues on construction equipment and company vehicles.
• Disassemble and repair hydraulic pumps, motors, and related components.
• Roll out for roadside and jobsite repairs when a machine goes down in the field.
• Perform inspections and repairs to keep vehicles in compliance with safety standards.
• Keep accurate time, materials, and repair records; manage parts inventory.
• Provide technical guidance to Level 1 mechanics, customers, and the sales team.

This isn't an entry-level seat - you'll be diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling everything from skid steers, excavators, and aerial lifts to our class 8 trucks, service trucks, and trailers. Gas and diesel, shop and field, engines to hydraulics.

What Your Day Looks Like

• Perform major and minor repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, and differentials
• Diagnose engine, hydraulic, hydrostatic, and 12V electrical issues on construction equipment and company vehicles - including class 8 trucks, service trucks, and trailers
• Disassemble and repair hydraulic pumps, motors, and related components

• Perform inspections and repairs to keep vehicles in compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements
• Keep accurate time, materials, and repair records so nothing slips through the cracks
• Maintain parts and materials inventory, and lend your experience to equipment spec decisions
• Provide technical guidance to Level 1 mechanics, customers, and the sales team

What You Bring

• Journey-level experience diagnosing, maintaining, and overhauling engines, power transmission systems, and hydraulics on trucks, construction machinery, and equipment
• Ability to work independently with sound judgment - assignments come in general terms, and you run with them
• Comfort working in shop and field environments in all weather conditions
• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 90 pounds and work in tight or awkward positions
• Valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record
