A state transportation agency in South Carolina seeks a skilled technician for vehicle maintenance and repair role. Responsibilities include installing equipment, performing safety inspections, and minor welding. Candidates should have 2.5 years of related experience or equivalent education. A valid driver's license and CDL are also needed. This role offers a dynamic work environment with commitments to safety and diversity.
Performs preparation of medium-heavy duty equipment and truck body installations of warning lights, two-way radios, tarp assemblies, agency decals, vehicle number stenciling, and other accessories. Prepares hydraulic and electrical systems on trucks and equipment. Performs auto body and paint repairs to agency vehicles and equipment. Performs minor electrical/gas welding and cutting. Performs troubleshooting tests and repairs on electrical systems installed on trucks and equipment. Performs safety inspections for medium-heavy duty trucks body/paint/electrical area of shop, repairs overhead lights, air lines, and drop cords, shop equipment.
Assists supervisor with developing and administering mechanic training materials. Performs service calls which may include the repair of vehicles and/or towing, including operation of tow vehicle. Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and or disposed as per DHEC regulations. Containers must be properly labeled. Assists other areas of the Equipment Depot as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
