We are seeking candidatesfor the position ofVehicle Equipment Mechanic - 1st Cl (0601).

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

NOTICE: The finalist selected for this position will be subject to a updated criminal background check in accordance with SEPTA Policy # E20 which states, "All incumbent employees not having a criminal background check within the last year are subject to an updated investigation for the purpose of determining their suitability for employment, in the event they seek promotion or transfer."

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Responsible for the diagnosis of complex mechanical, electrical and pneumatic troubles: in the disassembly, repair, replacement, reassembly and adjustment of diesel or gasoline engines, clutches, transmissions, refrigeration units, and other automotive equipment, and in the performance of related duties under the general supervision of the foreperson.
  • Diagnoses mechanical, pneumatic and electrical trouble of a more intricate nature; determines in general, extent of repairs or replacement needed. Test, diagnoses, troubleshoots, repair and adjust all types of air conditioning systems and units, which include mechanical, electrical and refrigeration components and piping.
  • Checks, adjust, repairs , replaces, and /or cleans evaporator core filter, compressors, expansion valves, and all other electrical pneumatic and mechanical controls, relays regulators, alternators, valves, switches, wiring and other units.
  • Performs duties of and directs activities of employee of lesser classifications as required
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must satisfactorily complete written qualification tests and performance tests.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL (SEPTA will provide CDL training).
  • Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.
  • Must be able to work varied shift.
  • Graduate from an accredited technical school in the automotive repair field with certification required.
  • In lieu of recent certification from accredited technical school in related field, one year of work experience in the repair of gas or diesel engines is an acceptable equivalent.
  • Must have experience as an automotive mechanic, with experience repairing engines, transmissions, etc.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

**Starting Pay Rate: $35.34/hour - After 12 Months: $39.27, based on applicable contract.**
