Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Abilene, TX is seeking a Vehicle Driver I to operate and maintain agency vehicles and transport cargo and passengers. The role supports Food Service and requires safety, punctuality, and adherence to schedules.

State benefits include health insurance, pension, and paid leave. Responsibilities include driving trucks, maintaining logs, performing routine vehicle maintenance, and assisting with loading/unloading.

Qualifications

• Graduation from standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
• Any prior work experience operating a motor vehicle with multiple passengers or transporting cargo is required; Six (6) months is preferred.
• Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Texas Department of Public Safety CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime.
• Operates motor vehicles such as vans and trucks and transports passengers, cargo, and food carts.
• Prepares and maintains records and logs related to vehicle operations. Understands and follows written and oral instructions.
• Performs basic vehicle maintenance and fuels vehicles; completes daily operator maintenance.
• Ensures cargo/food cart capacity is not exceeded and safety restraints are used.
• Assists in loading and unloading of passengers, cargo/food carts; may assist with warehouse tasks.
