Job description

Vehicle Drivability Engineer II

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking aVehicle Drivability Engineer IIfor thePerformance & Electrified Drivetrain (PED) Team of theElectrified Propulsion Performance Development (ePPD) Department. TheePPD Department oversees new model development, calibration of drivability functions, vehicle performance assessment(s), and the development of ICE, hybrid, and electric vehicles.


What You Will Do:

  • Vehicle Testing:

    • Vehicle Update and Instrumentation:

      • Install data acquisition equipment and sensors for acceleration, GPS, and thermal data

      • Update vehicle controllers with the latest software releases

      • Reverse engineer CAN bus signals for competitive analysis



    • On-Track - Execute HATCI test procedures for drivability and shift quality data collection and ensure data integrity

    • On-Road - Participate in vehicle evaluation and ride-and-drive activities, provide subjective feedback regarding vehicle performance, and identify drivability and shift quality issues

    • Customer Clinics - Participate in the design and execution of customer clinics to get in-depth knowledge of drivability issues






  • Drivability Calibration:

    • Contribute to the development of countermeasures and tuning of control system parameters to effect changes

    • Change INCA calibration data to meet HATCI performance targets






  • Data Analysis:

    • Utilize data analysis tools, such as apps in Matlab, AVL Drive, and INCA, to create plots to determine the root cause of drivability issues, compare against competitive data, and demonstrate countermeasure effectiveness

    • Review customer feedback in JD Power IQS, Consumer Reports, Enprecis, and customer clinics to discover potentialareas of improvement for vehicle development






  • Reporting:

    • Create/generate concise reports on drivability issues, countermeasure effectiveness, and competitive analysis





What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field

    • Demonstrated understanding of dynamics, control systems, thermal systems, and powertrain systems

    • Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record

    • Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time






  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering

    • 2~5 years of experience in vehicle development, especially for drivability or transmission shift quality

    • Familiar with ETAS INCA or other CAN calibration tools

    • Knowledge ofVehicle Spy or other CAN decoding tools

    • Comfortable using PowerPoint for reporting/presenting purposes

    • Strong ability to perform data analysis in Excel

    • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for batch data processing
