Job summary

VDOT is seeking a senior IT Project Manager in Mechanicsville, Virginia to lead and manage projects within the Project & Product Delivery portfolio. This role requires PMP, risk management experience and a proven record on Commonwealth projects; local onsite work is expected.

Responsibilities include guiding Agile, SAFe, Waterfall and Kanban practices, coordinating with stakeholders and vendors, and driving delivery through the full project lifecycle while protecting the team and ensuring value

Qualifications

• PMI PMP certification is required.
• Documented risk management experience is required.
• Completion of a Category 1 or 2 Commonwealth project of $$$M or more as PM, or completion of a non-COV project with value greater than $$$$$M as PM of record.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage projects within the Project & Product Delivery team using Agile, SAFe, Waterfall and Kanban methodologies.
• Work closely with stakeholders including senior leadership, business units, cross-functional teams and vendors.
• Drive project plans, release plans, resource allocation, risks, scope, schedule and delivery of value.
• Coordinate Agile ceremonies and track project metrics such as velocity and progress.
• Promote continuous improvement and protect the team from interruptions.

VDOT is seeking a senior, experienced IT Project Manager to join the Project & Product Delivery portfolio. This position is in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Candidate will lead and manage projects within the Project& Product Delivery team utilizing Agile, SAFe, Waterfall and Kanban methodologies. Ability to work closely with all stakeholders including the senior leadership, business, cross functional teams and vendors.

This position s specific responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Drives consistent project delivery through the entire project lifecycle, including: project plans, release plans, resource allocation, and management of project risks, scope, schedule, and delivery of value.
• Coordinates Agile Ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Retrospectives, Sprint Demos, Story Refinement, and Release Planning.
• Tracks and communicates project's progress from a schedule, cost, and risk perspective to the project team, stakeholders, and management.
• Establishes an environment where the teams can be effective and helps removing obstacles.
• Protects the team from outside interruptions and distractions.
• Ensures a good relationship between the team and product owner as well as others outside the team.
• Tracks and reports team velocity and other project metrics.
• Promotes continuous improvement and helps teams to increase productivity.
• Helps Product Owner and team with Product backlog management.
• Ensures the teams are practicing core Agile, Waterfall and VITA principles and processes.
• Adheres to VDOT and VITA project management practices as defined.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Solid understanding of software development lifecycle models as well as expert knowledge of Agile project management principles and practices.
• Ability to work with customers, understand their business practices and manage their expectations.
• Ability to set clear performance standards and hold team members accountable, while keeping team engaged and on track.
• Ability to help Product Owners to create and prioritize Product Backlog.
• Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building.
• Strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills.
• Ability to analyze and document business and system processes.
• Ability to balance the competing demands for quality, scope, schedule, and cost.
• Well-versed with Scrum and Kanban Agile methodologies.
• Experience with SAFe framework is a plus.
