Job summary

Dewberry seeks Construction Inspectors to work on highway, bridge, and utility projects in Northern Virginia. Inspectors monitor contractor compliance and quality, review plans, and contribute to project records across multiple site locations.

Qualified candidates should have substantial VDOT inspection experience, plan-reading ability, and physical fitness for outdoor work. The role may involve coordinating field activities and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years VDOT construction inspection experience.
• OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification preferred.
• ACI Field Grade I Technician certification preferred.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms and specifications.
• Review and monitor contractor’s plan of operation including phasing.
• Advise contractors of violations and reviews and recommends approval of corrective measures.
• Identify necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions.
• Make field measurements of pay items and conduct materials testing.
• Observe and monitor contractor’s construction equipment.
• Maintain and review comprehensive project records including daily diaries, as-built plans, and pay quantity records.
• Support CM project managers with coordination and scheduling of field activities.
• May coach and/or guide a subordinate group.

Dewberry is currently seeking Construction Inspectors to work on highway, bridge and utility projects in the Northern Virigina area and open to sit at any of our Virigina locations.The Construction Inspector function is to monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structures, and bridge construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• Additional requirements include excellent communications skills, ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, and ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations


• Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains


• Ability to repetitively stoop, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 25 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.


• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Salary Range

The projected hourly range for this position is $47.00-$57.00 hourly ($98,000-$120,000 annually). Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
