Job description

As a VDI Infrastructure Engineer, you will be an expert in architecting, designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining our company's virtual desktop platforms. Our VDI footprint consists of VMware Horizon that is deployed on-premise and in the cloud. This platform supports a wide range of business stakeholders and workloads, from general computing to resource-intensive development applications. The VDI Infrastructure Engineer will bring high-level expertise in the administration of VMware Horizon, Windows, and Linux desktop operating systems. You will be responsible for all areas of the VDI lifecycle, including management, provisioning, triage, monitoring, and decommissioning of VDIs and related technologies. This role involves supporting VDI technologies and end-users across Warner Bros. Discovery locations worldwide.

Your Role Accountabilities:

Engineering

1. Architect, build, maintain, and support virtual desktop delivery platforms based on technical requirements provided by application, systems, and business stakeholders.
2. Administer scalable virtual desktop infrastructure in both private and public cloud environments.
3. Manage and maintain Horizon View desktop pools, application pools, and user entitlements.
4. Handle Tier 3 (complex) issues, providing advanced support and triage of virtualized environments; collaborate with vendors as needed.
5. Provision and configure Horizon, Unified Access Gateway (UAG), Connection Servers, and end-user VDI desktop images.
6. Assist with critical patching and vulnerability remediation.
7. Create and maintain documentation; stay informed about industry best practices and latest technology trends.
8. Manage server hardware and storage solutions that support the VDI environment.
9. Participate in application integration design sessions.

Operations

1. Troubleshoot desktop image issues and related systems for quick resolution; take ownership of system issues.
2. Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to ensure software performance and best practices.
3. Maintain high uptime and respond promptly to system alerts, ensuring production-level performance of the virtual desktop infrastructure.
4. Willingness to accommodate weekend, shift, or on-call schedules when necessary.
5. Implement and utilize monitoring, patch management, and application management tools.

Analytics

1. Develop comprehensive performance analyses of business processes and identify improvement opportunities.
2. Participate in stakeholder meetings to understand major projects and initiatives.
3. Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Qualifications & Experiences:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
• 3-5 years of experience in Systems Administration and/or End-User Computing roles.
• Experience with planning, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Horizon View, Connection Servers, and UAG.
• Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11 Desktop OS and Linux desktop OS.
• Ability to analyze, optimize, and troubleshoot desktop system performance issues.
• Experience with Active Directory.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with vCenter and vSphere ESXi.
• Scripting and automation tools (PowerCLI, PowerShell, Python, Bash).
• Experience with Azure cloud environments and Horizon Control Plane 2.0.
• Knowledge of MySQL/MSSQL.
