Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. in Sanford, FL is seeking a VDC Engineer to plan, visualize, and model construction projects. You will create detailed BIM-based drawings for field teams and coordinate with subs and other disciplines across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field or four years’ experience in VDC/Engineering/Design.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience; internship ok.
• Experience with Autodesk AEC Suite: AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Plant3D, Civil3D, Recap.
• Familiarity with Forma, DroneDeploy, and Procore.
• Basic understanding of design/construction documents and building systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; high attention to detail.
• Ability to coordinate with senior team and manage resources.
• Able to work in office and on active project sites.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Plan, visualize, and model construction projects using BIM.

• Set up and manage project models through the lifecycle.
• Conduct 3D trade coordination meetings and support draft management.

• Generate drawings and details using BIM per standards.
• Develop or augment project BIM standards where needed.
• Troubleshoot software and processes to meet deadlines.

Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded General Contractor throughout the Southeast, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of VDC Engineer . We are currently seeking someone who is willing to work in Sanford, FL.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The VDCEngineer is responsible for theplanning, visualization, and computer modeling of construction projects.Producing detailed construction and design plans forSuperintendentsandEngineers from other disciplines to follow.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Mid-level of understanding of Water and/or Commercial construction demands.
• Can work effectively & efficiently with minimal direction from Senior level.
• Communicates with Subcontractors andteamson projects.
• Take leadership for select project tasks and/ or components.
• Perform project model setup and management throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct 3D trade coordination meetings and support management of trade contractor drafters.
• Advance innovation on complex projects.
• Support reality capture services (LiDAR, SLAM, Drone).
• Lead QA/QC and manage BIM in various platforms.
• Utilize BIM to generate drawings and details following specified standards.
• Implement project-specific BIM standards, developing or augmenting standards where necessary.
• Troubleshoot software, processes, and technical issues.
• Complete project deliverables on time and within budget.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; OR Minimum of two years of college credits with four years of work experience in VDC, Engineering, Architecture, or Design.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience ; internship experience in a related field preferred.
• Experience with or knowledge of the Autodesk AEC Suite, including:
  • AutoCAD
  • Revit
  • Navisworks
  • Plant3D
  • Civil3D
  • Recap
• Familiarity with Autodesk Forma, DroneDeploy, and Procore.
• Basic understanding of design/construction documents and building systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively communicate with senior-level team members, provide updates on project status or issues, and coordinate resource needs with the VDC team.
• Ability to work in both a professional office environment and occasionally on active project job sites.
• Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Full-time availability, Monday through Friday, 8:0 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
