The Primary Care RN will join our Otology team at the ENT Clinic on the 14th of the Adult Outpatient Pavilion. Otology is a specialized medical/surgical subset of ENT and we are excited to add a new team member who will aid Otology providers in assessing, triaging, coordinating care and providing essential patient education. You will join a small, inclusive team of RNs, LPNs and CMAs to provide care to our patients in the clinic and also in triage.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Integrate technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  2. Assist the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  3. Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  4. Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  5. Recognize changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately.
  6. Provide direction, education, and begin to acquire leadership skills at the unit level.
  7. Organize work and delegate and supervise others in carrying out assignments.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire

Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state.

Experience

Required:

  1. Clin I: N/A
  2. Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
  3. Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience

Preferred:

  1. Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice.
  2. Clin II, Clin III: Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice.
Education/Training

Required:

  1. Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.

Preferred:

  1. Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
  2. Clin III: Certification in specialty area.
Physical Requirements

Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs. Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. Activities include prolonged standing, sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, and reaching.

Mental/Sensory Requirements

Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.

Emotional Requirements

Ability to handle a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and frequent customer interactions.

Work Schedule

Otolaryngology (ENT) Ambulatory Clinic - Monday through Friday - Days.

The Primary Care Otology RN will aid Otology providers in assessing, triaging, coordinating care, and providing essential patient education.
