Job summary

Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. seeks a VCM Operator in Baton Rouge, LA to monitor and adjust process variables, operate the DCS, and manage sampling and analysis tasks in a highly controlled vinyl chloride plant environment.

The role requires an AS in Process Technology or equivalent, or substantial vinyl chloride operations experience. Candidates will monitor equipment, maintain logs, and coordinate with maintenance and operations to ensure safe, efficient production.

Qualifications

  • AS in Process Technology or equivalent, or 5 years of operations experience.
  • 2 years Vinyl Chloride operations experience or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor process variables and adjust within SOPs and log sheets.
  • Monitor rotating equipment for proper operation.
  • Operate manual valves.
  • Sample and analyze process samples.
  • Operate PCs and the DCS.
  • Communicate plant status and abnormalities in logs.
  • Troubleshoot process abnormalities.
  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements.
  • Perform minor maintenance.

VCM OPERATOR
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate of Science in Process Technology from college or technical school; or five years operations experience; or two years Vinyl Chloride operations related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors process variables and makes adjustments to operate within the parameters as established in standard operating procedures and log sheets.
  • Monitors rotating equipment for proper operation.
  • Operates manual valves.
  • Samples and analyzes process samples.
  • Operates personnel computers and the DCS (distributed control system).
  • Communicates plant status and abnormalities orally and through written logs.
  • Troubleshoots process abnormalities.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for process improvements.
  • Performs minor maintenance.
