Position: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer/Ultrasound

General Summary/Basic Purpose Of Job
Diagnostic Medical Sonographers produce sonographic images of high-risk OB/Gyne, general, vascular structures, and internal organs for disease diagnosis. They operate ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic images using appropriate transducers and controls.

Essential Functions And Duties

  • Understand ultrasound equipment and physics to produce high-quality images for review by physicians or radiologists.
  • Distinguish between true anatomical reflections and artifacts, adjusting controls accordingly.
  • Integrate diagnostic sonograms with lab results, patient history, and medical records, adapting exams as needed.
  • Perform ultrasound procedures following accepted protocols and physician directions.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment cleanliness and report damages immediately.
  • Use AIDET principles to communicate effectively with patients.
  • Verify patient identity through ID bands and questions.
  • Understand Doppler controls and principles for accurate imaging.
  • Create imaging files that accurately represent normal and abnormal anatomy and pathology.
  • Assist with biopsies and invasive procedures, documenting via ultrasound imaging.
  • If trained in specific areas (breast, pediatric, vascular, OB/GYN, general), produce accurate images using appropriate techniques.
  • Properly document and assign ultrasound studies in Meditech, PACS, and other systems.
  • Share responsibilities across inpatient, ED, portable, and Schwab patients; communicate effectively with team members.
  • Perform quality assurance tests on ultrasound machines and report issues.
  • Follow disinfection protocols for ultrasound probes and maintain logs.
  • Rotate across Sinai system locations, including shift flexibility and coverage for PTO, call-ins, and emergencies.
Job Requirements
  • Licenses and Certifications: Must be ARDMS certified within two years of hire (RDMS in AB/OB-GYN or Breast; RVT for Vascular).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
