Vascular Technologist I

Part-Time; Rotating Schedule; 2/10hr or 2/12hr shifts

General Summary

Under general supervision, promotes effective laboratory function and test quality in the administration and performance of various noninvasive vascular blood flow tests.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel in this role. They are not exhaustive of all duties.

  1. Performs various noninvasive tests, including duplex imaging of arteries and veins, carotid, mesenteric, aortoiliac, hepatoportal, Doppler physiological testing, and TCD exams, as requested by physicians.
  2. Determines appropriate tests based on patient responses and physician recommendations.
  3. Reports abnormal results immediately to the referring physician and documents communication in the patient's chart.
  4. Explains disease patterns and writes preliminary interpretations for physician review.
  5. Reviews inpatient charts, consults with medical personnel, interviews patients, and may recommend additional procedures as needed.
  6. Provides age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
  7. Assists in lab operations, including patient scheduling and answering questions.
  8. Collaborates with biomedical engineering and medical service representatives regarding equipment.
  9. Keeps credentials current and participates in professional development activities.
  10. Trains students and fellows in vascular testing methods.
  11. Participates in vascular research under supervision.
  12. Performs related duties as required.
  13. Working Conditions
  • Part-time shifts with self-scheduling; some weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.
  • Requires occasional lifting, and regular walking, standing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP-approved diagnostic ultrasound program preferred; certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI) required.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • New graduates are welcome.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, vascular lab practices, and ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to evaluate patient condition and provide age-appropriate care.
  • Physical ability to lift equipment and assist patients, and stamina to stand and walk for extended periods.
