Job summary

The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI is seeking a Vascular Technologist to perform and interpret non-invasive vascular studies of arterial, venous, and cerebrovascular systems. Reporting to the Cardiac Testing Manager, responsibilities include duplex scanning, Doppler waveforms, and coordinating with clinicians.

Requires ARDMS certification or registry eligibility, completion of a CAAEP-accredited vascular ultrasound program, and one year of clinical experience. Per diem schedule; on-site work.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a CAAEP accredited ultrasound program with vascular concentration.
  • ARDMS certification or registry eligible.
  • Knowledge to care for adult and geriatric patients with sensitivity across developmental stages.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-invasive vascular testing including duplex scanning and color flow imaging of extremities and cerebrovascular vessels.
  • Perform physiological arterial testing using volume plethysmography, segmental pressures and Doppler waveforms.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families and maintain safety and comfort.
  • Communicate with referring clinicians to meet expectations for high-quality testing.
  • Follow CI imaging protocols per Miriam Hospital standards.
  • Assist with maintaining ICAVL accreditation and quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain professional education and affiliations.
  • Uphold safety, infection control, and environmental procedures in the lab.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining vascular lab equipment.

Overview

Reporting to the Cardiac Testing Manager, the Vascular Technologist performs and interprets physiological and ultrasound evaluations of the venous, arterial, and cerebrovascular circulation. Responsibilities
  • Perform non‑invasive vascular testing to include duplex scanning and color flow imaging of the upper and lower extremities (venous and arterial) and extracranial cerebrovascular and abdominal vessels (aorta, renal artery, kidney, mesenteric arteries and liver).
  • Perform physiological arterial testing of the upper and lower extremities utilizing volume plethysmography along with segmental pressures and Doppler waveforms.
  • Explain vascular procedures to patients and families and provide safety and comfort in accordance with the prescribed standards.
  • Ensure that patient, practice physician, and referring physician expectations for technically superior cardiac testing are met. Communicate effectively with referring and ordering clinicians.
  • Follow imaging protocols of the CVI, which are in accordance with the standards of The Miriam Hospital.
  • Assist the Cardiac Testing Manager with maintaining ICAVL accreditation and with quality assurance/quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain expertise in the professional discipline by participating in education‑related professional activities and affiliations.
  • Maintain safety and environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies and procedures.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining vascular lab equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Basic Knowledge
  • Completion of a CAAEP accredited ultrasound program with concentration in Vascular Ultrasound.
  • Certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to adult and geriatric patients with consideration of human developmental stages and respect for cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Experience
  • One‑year full‑time clinical experience in Vascular Ultrasound.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Healthcare environment such as physicians' medical office practice and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
  • Works with medical office equipment and has direct patient contact.
  • Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
  • Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
  • May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards.
  • May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.

None.

Pay Range

$39.56‑$65.28
