Brown University Health is seeking a Vascular Technologist to perform non-invasive vascular ultrasound examinations, obtain diagnostic images, and document findings. The role collaborates with radiologists, nurses, and physicians to support timely diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease.

Qualified candidates have a CAAEP-accredited program and ARDMS certification or eligibility, with at least 1 year of vascular ultrasound experience and strong patient care skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with radiologists, referring providers, and clinicians to meet expectations and ensure timely services.
• Follow imaging protocols to ensure quality and patient safety; participate in QA/QI initiatives.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and ongoing professional development.

Job description

SUMMARY:

The Vascular Technologist performs non-invasive vascular ultrasound examinations to evaluate arterial, venous, and cerebrovascular circulation. The technologist is responsible for obtaining high-quality diagnostic images, accurately documenting findings, and providing exceptional patient care in accordance with Hospital and Brown University Health standards. This position works collaboratively with radiologists, referring providers, nurses, and other healthcare team members to support timely diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs non-invasive vascular testing to include duplex scanning and color flow imaging of the upper and lower extremities (venous and arterial) and extracranial cerebrovascular and abdominal vessels (aorta, renal artery, kidney, mesenteric arteries, and liver). Performs physiological arterial testing of the upper and lower extremities utilizing volume plethysmography along with segmental pressures and Doppler waveforms.
• Explains vascular procedures to patients and families. Provides safety and comfort in accordance with prescribed standards.
• Ensures that patient, referring provider, and physician expectations for technically superior vascular testing are met. Communicates effectively with referring and ordering clinicians.
• Follows imaging protocols established by the Diagnostic Imaging Department and Brown University Health standards to ensure consistency, quality, and patient safety.
• Assists management and department leadership with maintaining laboratory accreditation and supporting quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintains expertise in the professional discipline by participating in continuing education, professional development activities, and relevant professional affiliations.
• Maintains safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Assists with cleaning, maintenance, and quality control of vascular ultrasound equipment.
• Collaborates with radiologists, vascular specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and timely diagnostic services.
• Participates in departmental meetings, operational initiatives, and process improvement activities that support the goals of the Diagnostic Imaging Department and Hospital.

EDUCATION:

• Completion of a CAAEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited ultrasound program with concentration in Vascular Ultrasound.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

• One year full-time clinical experience in Vascular Ultrasound.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to adult and geriatric patients with consideration of human developmental stages and respect for cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

WORK ENVIRONMENR:

• Healthcare environment such as physicians' medical office practice and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical office equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of safety equipment and protective clothing. Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.

Pay Range:

$39.56-$65.28
