Job summary

Anderson Hospital is seeking a highly skilled vascular access nurse to autonomously assess and place PICCs and Mid Lines for adult and geriatric patients. The role includes education, outcome monitoring, and coordination with physicians, Pharmacy, and IS to ensure timely, evidence-based care.

The position emphasizes enhancing patient safety, dressing changes, troubleshooting complications, and leading performance improvement related to vascular access.

Qualifications

• Proficient in placing PICCs and Mid Lines in adult/geriatric populations.
• Ability to educate staff and patients on PICC care and maintenance.
• Collaborates with physicians, Pharmacy, and IS for orders and documentation.
• Performs dressing changes, de-clotting, and troubleshooting of catheter complications.
• Maintains accurate documentation and ensures proper charges.
• Engages in performance improvement and data collection for vascular access.
• Leads and participates in routine PICC/Mid Line team meetings.

Responsibilities

• Exhibits competency in PICC/Mid Line placement and other vascular access devices.
• Delivers age-appropriate patient care with safety and efficiency.
• Identify candidates for long-term VAD and coordinate with the care team.
• Collaborate with physicians to obtain orders for early PICC/Mid Line placement.
• Monitor care and dressing changes; troubleshoot complications; support IV therapy.
• Educate patients and families on care and maintenance of PICCs/Mid Lines.
• Coordinate outpatient PICC/Mid Line insertions and related services.
• Serve as resource for port-a-cath access and central lines.
• Document timely and accurately per hospital policy and charging rules.
• Enter data for record keeping and QA indicators.
• Ensure vascular access policies are current and staff are educated on updates.
• Engage in research and evidence-based practice to advance vascular access.
• Provide leadership and autonomy within the practice setting.
• Facilitate meetings with PICC/Mid Line nurses and communicate updates.
• Participate in IV therapy product evaluation and training.
