Varsity Wrestling Head Coach

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Varsity Wrestling Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, development, organization, and supervision of the Carrollton High School Wrestling Program. The Head Coach will foster the athletic, academic, and personal growth of student-athletes while promoting sportsmanship, character, teamwork, leadership, and a positive school culture. The Varsity Wrestling Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the wrestling program, including practice planning, competition preparation, staff supervision, program development, and compliance with district, league, and MHSAA rules and regulations.

COMPENSATION:

The Varsity Wrestling Head Coach will be compensated in accordance with the CEA Contract, Appendix B.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide leadership and direction for the entire wrestling program, including varsity, junior varsity, and developmental levels.
• Develop and communicate a clear vision and philosophy for the wrestling program that aligns with the goals of Carrollton Public Schools.
• Teach and develop fundamental and advanced wrestling skills, techniques, strategies, and conditioning programs.
• Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices that promote athlete development, safety, and competitive success.
• Evaluate student-athletes' abilities and provide constructive feedback to improve individual and team performance.
• Promote positive values, ethics, sportsmanship, discipline, and respect among student-athletes.
• Foster leadership skills, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence, and personal growth.
• Establish and maintain high expectations for conduct, academic achievement, and athletic performance.
• Supervise and mentor assistant coaches to ensure consistency in instruction, expectations, and program goals.
• Coordinate and collaborate with assistant coaches regarding athlete development and program operations.
• Organize and supervise all team activities, including practices, competitions, travel, camps, clinics, and offseason activities.
• Maintain accurate records, eligibility documentation, equipment inventories, and program communications.
• Ensure proper supervision and safety of student-athletes at all times.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, school staff, administration, officials, and community members.
• Collaborate with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, budgeting, equipment needs, transportation, and program operations.
• Attend required meetings, coaching clinics, and professional development opportunities.
• Promote and support the recruitment and retention of student-athletes within the wrestling program.
• Uphold and enforce all district policies, league regulations, and MHSAA rules and expectations.
• Serve as a positive role model and representative of Carrollton Public Schools both on and off campus.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Passion for developing youth both athletically and holistically.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate, inspire, and mentor student-athletes and coaching staff.
• Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategy, conditioning, and athlete development.
• Prior wrestling coaching experience required; varsity head coaching experience preferred.
• High school and/or collegiate wrestling experience preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, and all required coaching certifications (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
• Strong oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively supervise student-athletes and assistant coaches.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, administration, and community stakeholders.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED; college coursework or degree preferred.
• Must receive a satisfactory response to Form 4205-F Authorization for Release of Information and Employee History Check Under 1996 PA 189; MCL 380.1230b.
• Must satisfactorily pass:
  • Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
  • Personal and professional reference background checks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, demonstrate wrestling techniques, and actively supervise practices and competitions for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.

Ability to travel to athletic contests and events as required.
