Powers Catholic High School in Flint is seeking a Varsity Girls Head Lacrosse Coach. This is a part-time, exempt position that reports to the Athletics Director.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Girls Lacrosse Coach works in partnership with the Athletic Director to maintain, organize and administer the interscholastic girls lacrosse program at Powers Catholic High School. The Head Girls Lacrosse Coach is primarily responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Shared Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending for hire, and training subordinate coaches; planning, assigning, and directing girls lacrosse instruction; appraising student-athlete and subordinate coach performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; The Head Girls Lacrosse coach is responsible for helping promote the mission & vision of Powers Catholic High School with the school’s girls lacrosse athletes and coaches on a regular basis. This includes propagating a culture of Christian faith, sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership, Supervision, and Mentoring
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the Powers Catholic mission.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Act as a resource person for all staff girls lacrosse coaches.
  • Provide a channel through which students, coaches and the community may express their concerns about the girls lacrosse program.
  • Serve as a representative to booster groups (Chargers Club, etc).
  • Attend girls lacrosse practices to evaluate efficacy of instruction, relationships between subordinate coaches and players, and be a liaison to off-site proprietors where necessary.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
  • Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating good sportsmanship, the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and pride in the coaching profession.
  • Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
  • Promote the girls lacrosse and overall athletic program, encouraging multiple sport and activityparticipation along with academic achievement.
Program Development
  • Responsible for cooperation with coaches of other sports, administration, faculty and school groups.
  • Coordinate girls lacrosse program with an educationally based and philosophically appropriate instructional approach.
  • Identify program goals and needs for future.
  • Implement, or assist S&C staff, in administration of an effective off-season strength & conditioning training program.
  • Be involved and engage girls lacrosse staff in professional development.
  • Demonstrate concern for academic performance of all student-athletes in the girls lacrosse program and work with faculty/staff on remediation strategies when appropriate.
  • Engage girls lacrosse student-athletes in Powers Catholic-approved service projects.
  • Consider the health (physical, emotional and spiritual) and safety of girls lacrosse student-athletes in all practices, contests, conditioning sessions and team activities.
  • Possess the coaching skill to help individuals and team develop to fullest potential.
Coaching
  • Utilize sound teaching/coaching and motivational techniques
  • Utilize an effective practice plan and stay on task.
  • Facilitate, review and assess individual & team standards with athletes and coaching staff.
  • Must have the ability to positively engage girls lacrosse student-athletes while in practices and contests.
  • Must possess the ability to adjust tactical strategies in contest situations.
Communication & Relationships
  • Must display positive promotion, positive communication and also form positive relationships with girls lacrosse student-athletes, parents, media, alumni, staff and entire Powers Catholic community.
  • Must be involved, outside of girls lacrosse, in the greater Powers Catholic High School community,including service and campus involvement.
Administration & Organization
  • Comply with all NFHS, MHSAA, SVL, MWLCA rules, regulations, and deadlines.
  • Adhere to athletics office and school expectations, timelines and deadlines.
  • Responsible for coordinating girls lacrosse program budget with athletic director.
  • Assists athletic department with proper ordering procedures and operates within agreed upon budget parameters.
  • Must demonstrate proper care and record keeping for eligibility, compliance, equipment and facilities.
  • Must demonstrate proper care and record keeping for all athletic injuries at all levels supervised.
  • Understand appropriate risk management strategies and be prepared for emergencies.
  • Develop and evaluate subordinate coaches and volunteers with involvement of the athletic director.
  • Other duties as assigned by the athletic director.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Formal coursework in athletic coaching (preferred).
  • Hold and maintain a valid teaching certificate at the secondary level in the state of Michigan (preferred).
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no serious violations.
  • Hold and maintain current first aid, concussion and CPR certification.
  • Have excellent experience working with adolescents, including high school girls lacrosse playing and/or coaching experience.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate subordinate staff.
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the playing rules and regulations regarding interscholastic girls lacrosse at both a MHSAA and SVL level.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Also ability to use social media appropriately and to the program’s benefit.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
  • Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and returned a satisfactory result.
  • Protecting God’s Children (VIRTUS) workshop proof of completion.
