Job summary

Cooperstown Central School District seeks a Varsity Cheerleading Head Coach to lead all aspects of the cheer program at Cooperstown Jr/Sr High School. You will plan practices, coach safety, choreograph performances, and prepare teams for events while fostering school pride and inclusive environments.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and strong communication with students, families, and school staff. A valid NY coaching certification is required or in progress.

Qualifications

• Must meet New York State coaching certification requirements.
• Prior cheerleading coaching or participation experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cheer safety standards and stunt progression.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct practices focused on cheer techniques, including motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, and routines.
• Teach and enforce proper safety techniques in all cheerleading activities.
• Choreograph and coordinate cheers, chants, and routines for games and events.
• Prepare the team for performances at athletic events and competitions.
• Provide individualized feedback to support athlete growth and confidence.
• Foster teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and school pride.
• Coordinate and lead cheer performances at varsity Football events.
• Organize game-day responsibilities, including cheers, sidelines, and crowd engagement.
• Serve as the primary leader and role model for the cheerleading program.
• Ensure the team represents CCS positively at all events and in the community.
