Role Duration: Seasonal, Part-Time starting in July 2025
Job Description
Ashley Hall is looking for an enthusiastic Varsity Girls Head Basketball Coach to lead its Varsity Girls Basketball team. The coach will be responsible for building and developing a successful and competitive basketball program that establishes a clear pathway for athletes, providing expectations and standards of play for varsity participation that also informs the program from middle school through junior varsity. The ideal candidate creates a vision and leads the implementation of it.
Qualifications And Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in basketball fundamentals, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and possess a proven track record in building and managing a successful basketball program.
Major Responsibilities
The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities:
- Leadership & Coaching: Oversee the development, promotion, and growth of the Girls Basketball Program for Grades 5-12. Serve as the Head Coach for Varsity Girls Basketball. Provide leadership and mentorship to student-athletes, ensuring they not only excel on the court but also grow as individuals. Build a cohesive and motivated team, focusing on teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Program Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that prioritizes the fundamentals of basketball. Create long-term strategies for program growth, including talent identification, player development, and fostering a winning culture. Work with the Athletic Director to foster connections with lower school students and families to generate additional support for the program.
- Practice & Game Preparation: Plan and execute effective practices, ensuring that players continually improve their basketball skills. Prepare the team for games through tactical preparation, in-game strategies, and analyzing opponents.
- Game Management: Lead the team during games, making strategic decisions that maximize performance. Maintain composure and focus, setting an example for players both during competition and off the court.
- Athlete Development: Develop and implement training programs to enhance players' skills and fitness. Organize and oversee team/player activities, including youth development programs, summer opportunities/camps for players, and community events.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with coaching staff to ensure cohesive player development across Ashley Hall's basketball program.
- Community Engagement: Foster a strong connection with the school community, including parents, alumnae, and local organizations. Promote the basketball program and support fan engagement at home and away games.
- Administrative Responsibilities: Manage team logistics including scheduling practices, games, travel arrangements, and maintaining equipment and facilities.
Key Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of head coaching experience, preferably within a women's basketball program.
- A solid understanding of the fundamentals of basketball, including offensive and defensive strategies, conditioning, and skill development.
- Knowledge of basketball's rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches, staff, and school administrators to ensure a positive and successful experience for the team and school community.
- A willingness to commit time and energy to the growth of the basketball program, including evenings and weekends for practices, games, and other events.

Additional Requirements
- Current or ability to attain CPR certification upon hire.
- Completion of all required Ashley Hall and SCISA paperwork.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check, reference checks, and medical requirements.
- Strongly prefer candidates interested in a full-time role at Ashley Hall.
Time Commitment
- Start Date July, 2025
- In Season - October to March, 5-7 days a week, 2-4 hours a day
- Off Season responsibilities - TBD but expected
