Job summary

Sussex County Public Schools seeks an Assistant Baseball Coach- Varsity to support the varsity program at Sussex Central High School. This is a seasonal, spring position providing leadership, instruction, and supervision for student-athletes in accordance with VHSL and district policies.

The role involves practice planning, game preparation, and collaboration with the Head Coach to develop players, maintain safety, and promote academic achievement and sportsmanship throughout the season.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching/baseball at the high school level or higher preferred.
• Knowledge of VHSL rules, eligibility requirements, and athletic compliance standards.
• Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Compliance with all background checks and VHSL coaching certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Baseball Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practices and team activities.
• Teach and reinforce baseball fundamentals and game strategy.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction to develop athletic performance.
• Support game preparation: scouting, lineup management, equipment prep, field setup.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and events.
• Promote discipline, attendance, and sportsmanship per school/VHSL standards.
• Ensure safety with proper instruction and supervision.
• Assist with locker rooms, facilities, and equipment management.
• Communicate with students, parents, staff, and athletic department.
