Job summary

Kent Place School in Summit, NJ seeks a Varsity Assistant Lacrosse Coach for the 2026/27 season. The program has a history of top rankings in NJ and multiple championships, with a strong track record of alumni playing at the collegiate level. Hours are 3:45–5:45 p.m.

during the spring season (March 11 – June 8). Prior collegiate coaching/playing experience is preferred; high school experience is required. Reports to the Director of Athletics and participates in a range of athletic department

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor lacrosse players with a focus on fundamentals and sportsmanship.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, and athletic staff.
• Uphold school standards and supervise student-athletes at practices and events.
• Support athletic department operations and game-day logistics.
• Attend preseason meetings and participate in assigned activities and clinics.

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Coaching Experience

• Prior coaching/playing experience at the collegiate level preferred; experience at the high school level required.
• Understand the fundamentals of lacrosse
• Have the ability to motivate athletes to reach their potential.

• Must possess knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.

Administrative Duties and Personal Skills

• Must have excellent communication skills.
• Strong administrative skills.
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Maintains, along with coaches, the proper supervision of student-athletes at practices, meets, and on school-provided transportation.
• Effective, active listening skills.
• Promotes good public relations through professional standards of conduct and presentation and professional courtesy.
• Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Have the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Adhere to best practices of diversity and inclusion so that interactions with students, colleagues, and other constituencies highlight awareness, competence, and sensitivity.

Other duties as assigned

• Attends a mandatory preseason parent meeting and training session with the Athletic Dept.
• Participates in special activities, including senior day, parent night, banquets, awards nights, admission panels, open houses, coaching clinics, and pep assemblies.
• Complete all coaching accreditation modules and KPS training.
• Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Department.
