Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey, seeks a Middle School Assistant Swim Coach for the 2026 season. The role focuses on coaching Kent Place student-athletes in swimming, planning practices, and promoting sportsmanship. Hours are 2:30–3:30 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday during the Winter season (Nov 16–Feb 26).

Exempt, reports to the Director of Athletics. Prior collegiate-level coaching/playing experience is preferred; high school-level experience is required.

Competenze

• Collegiate level coaching/playing experience preferred; high school level experience required.
• Educate and coach Kent Place student-athletes in swimming.
• Plan and communicate practice sessions and competition strategies to assistant coaches to ensure health and well-being of student-athletes.
• Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding rules, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players during competition and practice to determine needs for improvement.

Job Description

Department: Athletics

Position Title: Middle School Assistant Swim Coach

Hours: 2.30 - 3.30 pm - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday

Season: Winter (November 16 - February 26)

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Assistant Middle School Coach

Coaching Experience

• Prior coaching/playing experience at the collegiate level preferred; high school-level experience required.
• Educate and coach Kent Place student-athletes in swimming.
• Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
• Plan and communicate practice sessions and competition strategies to assistant coach(s) that ensure the health and physical well-being of student-athletes.
• Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.

Administrative Duties and Personal Skills

• Must have excellent communication skills.
• Strong administrative skills.
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Maintains, along with coaches, the proper supervision of student-athletes at practices, games, and on school-provided transportation.
• Effective, active listening skills.
• Promotes good public relations through professional standards of conduct and presentation and professional courtesy.
• Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Have the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Adhere to best practices of diversity and inclusion so that interactions with students, colleagues, and other constituencies highlight awareness, competence, and sensitivity.

Other duties as assigned

• Attends a mandatory preseason training session with the Athletic Dept.
