Princeton Day School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Varsity Assistant Field Hockey Coach to join our athletic department for our Fall 2025 Season. This role, reporting to the Director of Athletics and directly managed by the Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach, is crucial for supporting our competitive high school program. You will help implement and manage all aspects of the program, fostering the development of our student-athletes both academically and athletically, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and compliance with school policies.
As the Varsity Assistant Field Hockey Coach, you'll be involved in a wide range of duties to support the program's success:
Team Management:
- Provide leadership and guidance to both the team and individual student-athletes.
- Assist with coaching and instruction training sessions.
- Promote team unity and contribute to the overall spirit of the school.
- Help manage team social media accounts.
- Support the Head Coach in promoting and monitoring the physical, emotional, and social well-being of student-athletes.
Program Management:
- Collaborate with the Head Coach on planning and executing in-season conditioning and practices, as well as evaluating team and individual performance.
- Assist with off-season conditioning, practice, and related activities.
- Help establish team and individual goals.
- Assist with the maintenance and inventory of all physical equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Recruiting:
- Support the Head Coach in recruiting high-quality student-athletes to the program. This may involve personal contact, correspondence, evaluating ability in person or by video, and on-campus visits.
Compliance & Operations:
- Ensure compliance with all Princeton Day School policies and procedures.
- Secure and maintain all required NJSIAA and School certifications.
- Assist the Head Coach in working with the Communications Department for program publicity.
- Handle school and student information confidentially and ethically.
- Attend departmental staff meetings, clinics, and workshops.
Community Engagement:
- Cultivate relationships with local and regional area schools and club programs.
- Support the development and implementation of annual summer leagues and training sessions.
Other Duties:
- Assume game day management duties as necessary.
- Fulfill additional administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics/Head Field Hockey Coach.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Previous coaching and/or playing experience at the club, high school or middle school level.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
- 1-2 years of coaching experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of computer software applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A well-grounded philosophy of honesty, integrity, and respect.
- Ability to train and motivate athletes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituents.
- Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
- Ability to think critically and provide sound solutions.
