The City of Clearwater is seeking Variable Employees for pool safety services. This essential role guarantees safety for patrons, engages with the community, and performs maintenance. Ideal candidates will hold lifeguarding certifications and have strong customer service skills, making them invaluable during peak seasons.
ENTRY SALARY: $17.98/hr.
POSITION OPEN CONTINUOUSLY - WILL FILL AS NEEDED.
The City of Clearwater has a need for temporary variable employees to supplement our permanent workforce. These variable employees are invaluable in meeting the mission of the agency.
The definition of a Variable Employee:
Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire.
Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.
NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
Variable public safety work in the enforcement of regulations and protection of life at municipal pools.
An employee in this classification exercises responsibility for the safety of swimmers and non-swimmers using pools, and for rendering assistance in emergencies. Work is Variable in nature and is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations governing the public use of City pools and adjacent areas. Supervision is received from a superior who makes work assignments and reviews work by observation.

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver’s license is preferred.
Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor OR Lifeguarding Certification from a nationally recognized aquatic training agency is required. Both certifications are preferred.
CPR and First Aid required.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor - New Material Certificate is preferred.
Education and Experience:
Previous Pool Guard, Swimming Instructor or related work experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
