Job description

Job Title: Van Driver - Upward Bound Program

Location: Fort Valley State University

Job Summary: To provide safe transportation for Upward Bound students, ensuring all students are picked up and dropped off on schedule. The Van Driver is responsible for safely operating the van or an alternative vehicle to transport students to and from designated pick-up and drop-off locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Transport students to and from designated locations
  • Ensure behavioral issues do not compromise safety
  • Perform daily sign-on and sign-off sheets, accounting for all students
  • Ensure passengers wear seat belts and are properly secured
  • Never leave a student unattended on the van
  • Conduct daily visual safety checks and complete checklists
  • Maintain cleanliness of the van interior daily and exterior as needed
  • Report any van repairs needed
  • Convey messages from parents and report incidents
  • Record mileage and submit gas receipts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student
  • Experience driving vans and working with low-income, first-generation students
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills and basic math skills
  • Ability to maintain schedules while meeting students' needs
  • Valid, unexpired Commercial Driver's License
Working Conditions:
  • Travel required, including college visits
  • Evening, night, and weekend work, including twice a month on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (October 2022 - May 2023)
